It’s nice to meet you.

My name is Kelly, and it took me a while to be okay with that. Today, I travel the world, have a job I’m passionate about and teach martial arts on the side, but for a large part of my life, none of these things seemed even remotely possible. I somehow grew from a little girl with BIG dreams into an adolescent with enough insecurities to choke a horse. So much so that in a misguided attempt to distance myself from the timid person cringing back at me in the mirror, I started going by a different name. I chose Scarlet for it’s color and flare, hoping that a bold name would somehow endow me with bold character. I even published my first work under this pseudonym. 

But writing, among other things, challenged me to speak (and consequently live) authentically, be bold and take risks. Now I invest intentionally in building a life I don’t need to scroll on a phone screen to escape. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve loved every season of my life. My faith tells me that there’s always been a purpose for the path I’ve taken, but finding the courage to step out of conventional and chase the extraordinary has elevated my whole living experience.
